Actress Kirstie Alley forgot to pay taxes on a Clearwater, Florida mansion. The actress, who is a Scientologist, purchased the property in 2008 valued at 1.8 million; the Church of Scientology is based in Clearwater.
According to Pinellas County Tax collector, Alley owes $41,395.00, which includes fees and penalties.
A representative for the actress claimed she has so many properties that she simply forgot to pay. And was unaware of the situation until a Tampa reporter asked her about it. Forgetting to pay a tax bill to the will result in the need of a tax attorney to help them reduce fees and penalties.
In Alley’s case, a company called Slingshot purchased a tax certificate on her mansion because of the delinquency, which means if Alley failed to pay the tax bill by 2013 they would recover the purchase amount of the tax certificate plus interest through a tax deed sale of the property.
It may seem strange, but some people do forget to pay their taxes and others avoid paying them. Either way any agency that needs to collect the taxes will impose fines and penalties that a tax lawyer may be able to get reduced.
For many some people paying a tax bill may be impossible when they are due, which results in overwhelming financial troubles. The advice of a tax attorney can outline your options if faced with a delinquent bill.
