The
United Nations has accused Hamas policemen of raiding a warehouse and seizing
thousands of blankets and food packages intended for Palestinian civilians.
According
to the UN the Hamas policemen had demanded officials turn the goods over and
when they refused the warehouse was raided. The action was instantly condemned
by the UN and they have called for the return of goods.
Nearly
half the Palestinians in Gaza rely on the UN for food as Israel maintains its
blockade on the Gaza Strip. While the UN provides aid to the Palestinians they
do not deal directly with Hamas, a militant group that was directly involved in
the recent three-week conflict with Israel.
Israel
has continued to launch airstrikes targeting tunnels near the border Gaza
shares with Egypt. Those tunnels have been used to smuggle in food and medicine
as well as weapons.
