Chicago fire fighters battled a three-alarm fire at the
historic Holy Name Cathedral Tuesday morning. The fire started on the roof
around 5:30 a.m. and was extinguished around 8:15.
A priest alerted everyone inside of the fire. No injuries
or deaths have been reported.
The 134-year-old church suffered significant water
damage. At least two-inches of water was standing in the sanctuary and the
basement was flooded. The fire only damaged the roof.
The cathedral was built in 1871 after the Holy Name
Church burned down in the Great Chicago Fire. Around 4,500 people attend mass
there each week.
