Facebook Celebrates Fifth Birthday, Vows to Continue Evolution of Social Networking

What started five years ago as a college project by Mark Zuckerberg has evolved into the most recognizable social networking community on the planet and now Facebook is celebrating its fifth year in existence.

Zuckerberg noted in a blog post, “building and moving quickly for five years hasn't been easy, and we aren't finished.” The 24-year-old showed no signs of settling down either, “as we celebrate Facebook's 5th birthday, we continue to work hard to evolve Facebook and make it as simple as possible to communicate with and understand the people and entities that matter to you.”

Facebook has surpassed MySpace as the most popular social networking community and now totals more than 150 million members.
