Rebecka Blenntoft Demonstrates DEEP OSCILLATION® Therapy at the Great Tew Estate Horse Trials, Oxfordshire 12th/13th June 2011
Rebecka Blenntoft, certified in Human and Equine Manual Lymphatic Drainage, will demonstrate how she combines the innovative German therapy DEEP OSCILLATION® with her skills during the two day event.
DEEP OSCILLATION®, an internationally patented therapy, first arrived in the UK in 2006 and is renowned for activating the bodies natural healing process and it is now a treatment of choice for many health care professionals because of its unique application and the effective results achieved. In the equine world it was first reported to Vet Click in 2008. It is exclusively available in the UK and Ireland.
DEEP OSCILLATION® therapy is very gentle, non-invasive and non-traumatic. In direct contrast to externally applied, mechanical forms of therapy, (e.g. vibration), the therapy effect of DEEP OSCILLATION® takes place in the tissue itself and works through the entire depth of the tissue layers (skin, connective tissue, subcutaneous fat, muscles, blood and lymph vessels) reaching a depth of 8 cm.
Rebecka trained at the prestigious Dr. Vodder Schule in Austria, her qualifications enable her to provide Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT) and she is a recognized Dr Vodder MLD Practitioner and Lymphoedema therapist. She is a member of both the British Lymphology Society and MLD UK. Rebecka is also certified in Equine Manual Lymphatic Drainage studied at the University of Veterinary Medicine, in Hannover, a course approved through The European Seminar on Equine Lymphatic Drainage (Berlin, Hannover, Munich).
Since the Summer of 2010, Rebecka has been combining both her human and equine manual lymphatic drainage techniques with DEEP OSCILLATION® with very effective results. In the Autumn of 2010, following the successful presentation of DEEP OSCILLATION® therapy to healthcare professionals at the MLD UK Conference 2010, the speaker Dr Max Emanuel Liebl of Charité Hospital in Berlin, invited Rebecka as his guest to visit Charite, the largest university hospital in Europe, where she witnessed the many applications of DEEP OSCILLATION® in their wards.
Having recently written for Central Horse News, Rebecka will also later this year visit Italy to demonstrate to vets there how she combines MLD and DEEP OSCILLATION®.
Rebecka Blenntoft has provided the following overview of her work:-
“Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is widely used on the Continent as an effective form of treatment for a wide range of conditions. In Germany the MLD therapist and the Veterinary Surgeons work as a team together – the vet diagnosing the condition and suggesting MLD to the clients – whilst the therapist treats the horse. The therapy is currently used for:
- Reduction of swelling (oedema) and reducing pain in tendon injuries
- Reduction in swelling from concussive injury (bruising) and haematomas
- Reduction in volume (combined with decongestive therapy) for swollen legs and lymphoedema
- The treatment of laminitis to decrease susceptibility to further attacks
- Reduction in swelling from postoperative causes (castration, colic operations)
- Increased healing rate of ulcers, proud skin, wounds and burns; Reduction in the appearance of scarring
- Increasing natural immunity to attacks of mud fever
- Reducing incidence of fibrosis after bouts of cellulitis
- Supporting the lymphatic system in cases of spavins, windgalls, etc.
- Reduction of recovery times after strenuous exertion
- Treatment of lymphoedema and elephantiasis in equines
MLD can be used in conjunction with DEEP OSCILLATION® therapy to assist with the breakdown of protein fibrosis and stimulate the natural healing process. This German-designed equipment is portable and can be used safely on horses. DEEP OSCILLATION® creates an electrostatic field that increases anti-inflammatory and oedema-reducing effects. MLD and DEEP OSCILLATION® can be used immediately after injury and on the first postoperative day, as it is very gentle. It significantly reduces pain.
I find the most interesting thing about my MLD work is that I seem to have a much wider variety of patients than strictly Lymphoedema, so I use DEEP OSCILLATION® possibly in more ways than most MLD practitioners. Due to my background in equestrianism, I treat a lot of rider injuries (bruising, contusions, fractures, RSI, dislocations, etc) but also older riders of fifty plus who are now suffering from arthritis, stiffness. I have also treated after hip and knee replacements, Fibromyalgia and Tennis Elbow. I find that using DEEP OSCILLATION® on lymphatic patients with protein fibrosis extremely beneficial. In addition, when working with injuries, people love the feeling of having this special German machine to help them and they also feel that joints and injured areas free up more quickly, feel "lighter" and most importantly, generally they stay feeling better for longer than with just conventional MLD"
Rebecka will be show-casing the DEEP OSCILLATION® Personal Sport at The Great Tew Horse Trial and her colleague Ann Barker-Murasik will be demonstrating the Rossiter technique, myofascial release and rider massage
The Great Tew Estate, which is the venue for the horse trials is close to Chipping Norton, two days full of exciting equestrian events are promised with a wide variety of tradestands, entertainment and refreshments. Admission is £4 on entry.
