ARE YOU YOUR CHILD’S DRUG DEALER?

Many teens are abusing prescription drugs because they believe the myth that these drugs provide users with a "safe" high, reports the executive director of C.A.R.E. Addiction Recovery, Mitchell Wallick, Ph.D., CAP, CMHP, ICADC, CAGC, FABFCE.

Even more alarming, “the majority of teens who abuse prescription drugs say that they are easy to get and are often free,” says Dr. Mitch.

According to
The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, 1 in 5 high school teens admits to abusing prescription drugs, and every day 2,500 teenagers use a prescription drug to get high for the first time.

Parents who eliminate access to prescription drugs in their homes need to be aware that the dangers still exist.  “Most teenagers are savvy enough to obtain prescription drugs from online pharmacies,” says Dr. Mitch.  The drugs of choice are painkillers, depressants and stimulants.

After observing a marked increase in the use of prescription drugs among teens, Dr. Mitch and the team at C.A.R.E developed a specialized drug rehab program for teens 18 and over that is based on the
holistic drug rehabilitation program that has made the Florida addiction treatment center a model for integrating alternative therapies into drug rehab programs.

Particularly when treating young, developing minds and bodies, the preference at C.A.R.E., is to avoid the use of drugs in connection with treatment, opting instead for an approach that heals the body naturally, while addressing mind and spirit.
Alternative treatments such as acupuncture, essential oil therapy and herbal detoxification complement a highly physical daily exercise regimen, including sessions with a trainer to develop a personalized fitness program, yoga, and sessions with a nutritionist to help restore the body while learning healthy new eating habits and food preparation skills.

A boutique
addiction treatment facility with one of the lowest patient to staff ratios in the industry, the staff at C.A.R.E. is trained to help teenagers understand the root causes of their addiction through individual counseling, group therapy, art therapy, psychodrama, meditation and access to non-denominational spiritual guidance.

C.A.R.E. Addiction Resources is located in North Palm Beach, Florida.  Founded by Dr. Mitch Wallick who holds Ph.D.'s in Counseling and Addictions, C.A.R.E. employs holistic healing modalities and endeavors to treat the underlying psychological factors that predicate addictions. In addition to alcohol and drug rehab programs, C.A.R.E. has had enormous success applying these same principles to those in need of
eating disorder treatment for anorexia, bulimia, or over eating as well as gambling addiction, sex addiction and Internet addiction.
