National Signing Day: Jelani Jenkins, Nation's Top LB, Commits to Florida Gators

Jelani Jenkins, the nation's top high school linebacker, committed to Florida on National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Jenkins, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from Good Counsel H.S. (Olney, MD), selected the national champion Gators over Penn State, Stanford, USC and Notre Dame.

Jenkins is ranked the top player in the state of Maryland by Rivals.com and is ranked No. 10 overall for the class of 2009. He is also ranked the No. 1 outside linebacker in the nation.

Jenkins becomes the third five-star commitment by Florida on National Signing Day after Sanford Seminole (FL) wide receiver Andre Debose and Quincy West Gadsden defensive tackle Gary Brown signed letters of intent today.

Jenkins' commitment will surely move the Gators up in the 2009 college football recruiting class rankings.  ESPNU and Rivals.com have been focusing on 2009 National Signing Day during their day long coverage with updates about the nation's best players and their college choices.
