Arkansas doctor Trent Pierce was critically injured Wednesday
when a bomb exploded on the front end of his Lexus SUV. Police say Dr. Pierce,
a family practitioner and chairman of the Arkansas Medical Board, was either near
the front of the vehicle or inside of it when the bomb exploded around 8 a.m. outside
his West Memphis home.
Pierce was flown to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He
is listed in critical condition. Doctors say Pierce may be transferred to a
burn center in Ohio.
No one else was injured. Residents up to a mile away
reported hearing a “violent explosion.”
“It’s a terrorist attack on Dr. Pierce. We just don’t know
why someone would do this…We’re going to find out,” says police Chief Robert
Paudert. “We don’t know if this was a random target.”
The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives found evidence of an explosive device. No threats against Pierce
have been discovered. The ATF is asking anyone with information to call their
hotline at 888-ATF-BOMB.
