"The only thing that I give a damn about is that the people that care about me know that I'm all right," said Iverson, who reportedly had some personal problems when he left the NBA in 2010.
"All I want is my real fans to know I'm fine, my wife is fine, my kids are fine. I'm fine and I'm looking forward to getting back on a team and being productive like I have been my whole career."
Iverson left the Philadelphia 76ers in February of 2010 to play for the Turkish club Beisktas. And although he insists that he truly enjoyed his time with the Turkish team, he says his heart is really with the NBA.
"Maybe I've rubbed people the wrong way as far as saying the things I've said in my life and in my career. But if any team needs me to help try and win a championship in any capacity, I'm waiting,"
said Iverson.
Iverson turns 36 this week and may have a lingering leg injury, so his options in the NBA might be limited. But Iverson insists that he is ready to play.
"It's me," said Iverson when asked what gives him the confidence that he will be able to play at the same level that he used to. "That's what gives me confidence. I know what I can do. Everybody in the world knows what I can do. Everybody knows what I can do on the basketball court."
And Iverson certainly has the kind of resume that is hard to ignore. From 1996 to 2010, he earned a number of awards, including the NBA Rookie of the Year title, the MVP title, 2 All-Star Game titles, 4 NBA Scoring Leader titles, and 11 All-Star selections.
