Suicide Bombing at Iraqi Restaurant Kills at least 12, More than a Dozen Injured

A suicide bomber detonated an explosive inside a restaurant in north-eastern Iraq, killing at least 12 and injuring 15 more.

According to reports the explosion took place shortly after 2:00 p.m. local time near the entrance of the restaurant in Khanaqin, Diyala province, near the border shared with Iran and the semi-autonomous Kurdish region.

Officials have said the majority of those killed were traders who had come from a local market.

Khanaqin has seen consistent violence between Kurds and Arabs as the two groups continue to battle for power.
