Pregnant American Tourist Sara Kuszak Abducted, Murdered in Puerto Rico

A pregnant American tourist was abducted and murdered Wednesday in Puerto Rico. Police say Sara Kuszak, who was five months pregnant, was abducted during a morning jog and murdered an hour later.

Kuszak was stuffed in the truck of the suspect’s car. She called a marina employee on her cell phone. The employee then called 911. Police speculate that Kuszak may have not known the same emergency number used in the U.S. is also used on the island.

Authorities used the signal from Kuszak’s cell phone and her description of her kidnapper’s car to locate her body and the suspect, who was carrying the phone. Kuszak was found in a field partially clothed with her throat slashed.  An unidentified man whose clothes were covered in blood was arrested. He was not immediately charged. He blamed his blood soaked clothes on helping his brother with a horse that had been cut.

 “He saw the woman and kidnapped her. He didn’t take anything. He stole her life,” says Lt. Angel Ocasio.

Kuszak had arrived in Puerto Rico Tuesday to meet up with her fiancé, Cheshire McIntosh, and several friends. “She was looking forward to the rest of her life with her fiancé and her unborn baby. I’m just devastated. I don’t know who would do something like that,” said Kuszak’s friend Matt Daniel in a phone interview from Savannah, Georgia.

Kuszak lived in Savannah and worked on sailboats and part-time in real-estate and catering.
