Joe
Calzaghe has decided to hang up his gloves, retiring from boxing after compiling
perfect 46-0 record and ruling the ring as a world champion for more than a
decade.
Calzaghe,
36, held titles in the super-middleweight division as well as the light-heavyweight
division and told BBC Sports his decision to retire was “difficult decision but
I have achieved everything I wanted to achieve in boxing.”
During
his interview with the BBC the Welshman noted, “I'm proud to be one of only a
few fighters in history to retire undefeated.”
Calzaghe
compiled an impressive list of victims inside the ring including Chris Eubank
for the WBO super-middleweight title, Jeff Lacy to retain his title and collect
the IBF super-middleweight title, Mikkel Kessler for the undisputed
super-middleweight title, Bernard Hopkins for the Ring light-heavyweight title
and Roy Jones Jr. to retain the light-heavyweight title.
