UN Suspends Relief Work in Gaza, Accuses Hamas Government of Stealing Aid

The United Nations has announced it will suspend relief work in Gaza after accusing the Hamas government of stealing massive amounts of food aid intended for suffering Palestinians.

According to the UN at least ten truckloads of rice and flour had been seized by Hamas militants along the Kerem Shalom crossing. That theft has led the UN’s Relief and Works Agency to suspend the importation of future relief aid.

UNRWA has stated they would not resume operations until they have assurances from Hamas that the thefts would end.

Palestinians in Gaza continue to face a humanitarian crisis following a three-week conflict between Israel and Hamas. More than 1,300 Palestinians were killed in the conflict while at least 50,000 were left homeless.
