21st Century Skills Explained

Many people who think 21st century skills are just the latest fad in education simply are not aware what 21st century skills in the classroom really are.

The Partnership for 21st Century Skills states that learning and innovation skills are a key skillset that separates students who are prepared for increasingly complex life and work environments in the 21st century and those who are not. They include creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, and communication and collaboration.

While schools have been slow to adopt training in these skills areas, parents interested in equipping their kids with these skills can turn to other sources, such as academic summer camps, to fill in the gaps that schools are missing.

SuperCamp's teen summer camps have been teaching 21st century skills since the 20th century. The first of SuperCamp's summer enrichment camps opened in 1982 based on the philosophy of preparing students to become lifelong learners capable of making valued contributions to the world.

SuperCamp teaches students in grades 6 through 12 and college students learning and life skills that give them the confidence, expertise and motivation to succeed in school, a career and life. Grade-specific programs at SuperCamp ensure that students are preparing for success at the next level.

In the summer camp's 27 years, over 50,000 SuperCamp graduates have benefited from the learning and life skills training they have received in the 10-day program. SuperCamp graduates have the opportunity to progress through additional leadership training programs in subsequent years, which further prepares them for the global workplace beyond college.
