Sexual harassment case against KBR finally goes to court

By: Daun Lee

A Texas woman, who worked for KBR, a subsidiary of Halliburton finally gets her case heard in court. Jamie Lee Burton alleges she was repeatedly sexually assaulted while for KBR in Iraq.

While stationed in Iraq, Burton claims she was drugged and gang-raped by fellow KBR employees. She was also detained for hours in a “prison-like container” after she reported her attack. One of her attorneys said the company has a history of creating a hostile work environment, and not protecting their employees from sexual harassment or assault. To end any sexual improprieties from the workplace a person can seek the counsel of a sexual harassment attorney.

Although she filed the suit against KBR and Halliburton in 2006, lawyers for the company claimed the contract she signed states all work-related claims must be settled through arbitration. The Fifth Circuit court ruled her case is not work-related, and her lawsuit could be heard in court.

KRB has stated that it does not tolerate sexual harassment, and treat any such allegations seriously. In contrast, Burton’s attorneys say that KRB has been beleaguered with allegations of sexual harassment since 1998, but has kept the stories a secret.

A person should feel safe while on the job, but many men and women are subjected to sexual harassment. By retaining a sexual harassment lawyer, victims of harassment can have the problem eliminated making work feel safe again. Sexual harassment attorneys have toiled to end sexual assaults and harassment from the workplace.
