A recent Sports Illustrated report claims that New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez tested positive for anabolic steroids in 2003, a season in which he was named the American League MV while playing for the Texas Rangers.
A-Rod was said to be one of 104 players that tested positive during the season but according to Major League Baseball there were no penalties in place for a positive test in 2003.
When asked about the positive steroids test Rodriguez made no comment, telling SI “to talk to the union.”
While Rodriguez neither confirmed nor denied the positive steroids test he has said in the past they he never used performance-enhancing drugs.
In 2003 Rodriguez hit .298 with 47 home runs and 118 RBIs, numbers that helped him win his first MVP award. The previous season Rodriguez hit .300 with 57 home runs and 147 RBIs. Alex Rodriguez was named the American League MVP in 2005 and 2007 while playing with the Yankees.
