Members of the Gulf Cartel are believed to be responsible for the murder and mutilation of two bodyguards assigned to a Mexican governor. Officials say the bodies of the bodyguards, who were also police officers, had been dumped outside a supermarket in the Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon. A note addressed to Nuevo Leon Governor Rodrigo Medina was found nearby.
"To Governor Rodrigo Medina, here are two of your bodyguards," the note read in part, according to the local El Norte newspaper.
"Let's see where the hell you can hide," it said.
No other details, including the victims’ names, were released. Medina offered his condolences to the men’s families and vowed to not back down in fighting against drug violence. "The threats won't stop me from fighting for a safe Nuevo Leon," he Tweeted.
