Connors, who used to coach Roddick, said that in order for Roddick to win, "he's going to have to come up with something spectacular, and I don't know if he can do that now."

Roddick, 28, won the US Open back in 2003 and reached four Grand Slam finals from 2004 to 2009.

"I think for him to win one, he'd have to come up with something very, very special now," said Connors on Tuesday. "The other guys have kind of gotten on to him a bit. The big serve seems to be coming back a lot more, and the guys are getting the ball in play. They've figured out a way. Because all the guys have big serves now, and some of them are even bigger than his."

Roddick recently reached the semi-finals at Queen's Club but lost to #4 player Andy Murray. Roddick is currently ranked #10.

"He certainly has the weapons," said Connors, who resigned as Roddick's coach in 2008. "I think he's lost a bit of confidence."

Roddick will soon be playing in Wimbledon, where he lost in three finals to Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer.

"Grass is certainly a different animal to where things can happen in a hurry with his serve and his game," said Connors. "It might fit him a little bit. But he's not 23, 24 years old anymore."

Connors also speculates that other things besides tennis might be competing for the attention of Roddick these days. Roddick got married in 2009 to model Brooklyn Decker.

"There's other things on his mind probably that are taking up space," speculated Connors. "Tennis is a 365-day-a-year job. If you're not willing to put in that time and make that happen over the course of that year, other things creep in there, they take your mind off your business, and all of a sudden tennis is not the most important thing."
