North Carolina police arrested a Burlington woman for DUI, twice in the same day.
Eleanor Anderson Thompson, 55, was pulled over by police around 3:30 pm, after she failed to yield for a fire truck. A breathalyzer showed that her blood alcohol content was .032, four times the legal limit in North Carolina. A DUI attorney can challenge a BAC reading in court. She was charged with driving while impaired, driving without a license, driving with a fake registration and failure to yield for an emergency vehicle.
A judge released Thompson to her sister because she had been cooperative with police and had family in the area. Thompson also required medical attention for an injury to her arm.
A mere six hours later she was back in jail for another DUI. Mebane police stopped her at 9:00 pm for swerving and driving recklessly. This time her BAC was .030. Experts say that either she continued drinking after her release or that her BAC was on the rise while in custody the first time.
Thompson is proof that old habits die hard. She previously served two years in a Florida jail for multiple DUIs. No word if any of those happened in the same day. To get leniency from any judge she will need the best DUI lawyer she can find.
Having multiple DUI charges will usually result in jail time. With the defense of an experienced DUI attorney, a person may be able to have their sentences reduced.
