Mortar Attack in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province Kills at least 14, More than 15 Injured

At least 14 people were killed and more than 15 left injured after a mortar attack struck a home in the volatile North West Frontier Province in Pakistan. Several of those killed were reported to be women and children.

The mortar strike came as militants and Pakistani security forces engaged in battle in the Darra Adam Khel area. Al-Qaeda has long used the northwest region of Pakistan as a safe haven and many in Darra Adam Khel blamed the security forces for the recent deaths.

Citizens in the area have said the mortar was launched by the military but that has been denied by the government. Security forces have been making a push to rid the region of the militants.
