Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance launches Twitter campaign to raise money for research

By: Daun Lee

The Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance announced an international campaign to raise funds for research. @Cancer Alliance plans to donate $1 for every person who becomes a new follower between now and September 2, 2011, up to $50,000.

Mesothelioma is a particularly aggressive form of lung cancer, caused by inhaling asbestos fibers. Victims of this disease develop tumors on the lining internal organs, usually the lungs but the heart and abdomen linings can be affected, as well. The treatments can be extremely costly, but mesothelioma attorneys can gain compensation for those afflicted with the terrible disease.

@Cancer Alliance will also give followers the opportunity to decide which cancer research center or organization will receive funds.

Mesothelioma affects over hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Its known cause is exposure to asbestos, which was once highly prized for its fire-retardant properties. Many commercial and residential buildings still contain the hazardous mineral. Once the dangers of asbestos were discovered the EPA began regulating its use, and has strict safety guidelines in place to protect people from the detriments it can have on human health. Mesothelioma lawyers have the information necessary to identify where a person was exposed to asbestos.

Because treatments for mesothelioma require a multi-modal approach, sufferers may find it necessary to hire a mesothelioma attorney, who can get them much needed financial compensation. Recouping financial losses can’t replace their health but it can give them some comfort.
