Authorities in Netanya, Israel have arrested two men and are questioning a third in connection with a gas leak that caused a deadly explosion Thursday night. One of the men in police custody is accused of causing the leak by accidentally cutting a gas pipe. The second suspect in custody is a scrap metal dealer. The man detained for questioning is an employee of the company that supplied the gas canisters.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said it appears “negligence” and a faulty gas canister led to the blast. “The results of the investigation into the blast show it was not caused by an attack or through criminal gang-related activity," he added.
The explosion occurred at a four-story building. The building was flattened, at least 4 people were killed and another 55 people were injured. Rescue teams were still looking though rubble for survivors Friday morning. At least 3 people are missing.
