The
public memorial for Caylee Anthony was held at the First Baptist Church of
Orlando on Tuesday with more than 1,200 people attending the service for the slain
2-year-old. Caylee Anthony’s mother, Casey Anthony, was not among those in
attendance nor did she watch the memorial service on TV from the Orange County
Jail where she remains held on charges of first-degree murder.
Several
of those attending the memorial service arrived hours ahead of the 10:00 a.m.
start and local television carried the broadcast on air.
The
service was organized by George and Cindy Anthony, Caylee’s maternal
grandparents. Both wept openly during the service and still found it hard to
speak about the death of their granddaughter. According to several reports
Casey Anthony did not approve of the memorial service, saying she didn’t think
it right that the public attend.
Caylee’s
remains were found in a wooded area less than a half mile from the home she
shared with her grandparents and mother. She had been missing since last June
but Casey Anthony didn’t report her missing until July. Investigators have
since gathered substantial evidence that points to Casey as the main suspect in her daughter’s death.
