A former male employee of a LensCrafters store in Michigan has won a sexual harassment lawsuit for $192,500. William Sheared, who filed the lawsuit, alleges the company ignored his complaints of sexual harassment, he was a man and the harasser was a woman.
Sheared, who began working as a lab technician in a Saginaw Michigan store, was subjected to repeated harassment from a female colleague, Melissa Brandt. According to the suit, Shearer stated that Brandt approached him and wanted to start a relationship with him that was “more than platonic,” but he declined. After that, Brandt would make references to sexual acts in Sheared’s presence, and talk about his body. Brandt is also accused of touching and grabbing him on his chest and backside. Sexual harassment attorneys can help anyone, regardless of their gender, end harassment at work.
Sheared took his complaints to management but the complaints were ignored and Sheared believes it was because he is a man. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed the suit on Sheared’s behalf in 2009.
The EEOC says that sexual harassment lawsuits filed by men aren’t unheard of, but they are rarer than suit filed by women. A sexual harassment lawyer can be retained to help anyone who has been harassed while on the job.
Sexual harassment causes the victims anxiety and creates a hostile environment for work. Retaining a sexual harassment attorney can end the harassment when businesses don’t take the allegations seriously.
