President
Barack Obama has seen another nomination remove themselves from consideration
to his Cabinet as Republican Senator Judd Gregg of New Hampshire withdrew his
name for commerce secretary.
In
a statement released by Gregg he noted policy differences with Obama’s
administration for his decision. This is the second time Obama has seen a
nomination for commerce secretary step aside, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson
withdrew his name after an investigation was launched into campaign donations.
Gregg’s
decision was based on what he called “a different set of views on many critical
items of policy.” Those views appeared to be related to the recent stimulus
package soon to be implemented as well as a new plan to order the U.S. Census
Bureau director to report directly to senior White House staff as well as the Commerce
Department, a move many Republicans have criticized.
