Bombs Kill 27 Outside Home Of Iraqi Provincial Governor

Two bombs exploded outside the home of an Iraqi provincial governor on Tuesday, killing dozens of people and wounding others. Officials say Qadisiyah province governor Salam Hussein Alwan and his family were inside their home at the time of the attack and were not harmed. At least 27 people, including civilians, policemen and at least one cameraman, were killed. More than 30 others were wounded.

The explosions occurred around 7 a.m., the time Alwan was expected to leave the house. Kareem Zghair, the head of the province’s security committee, said authorities had received “several warnings” in advance but failed to stop the attack.

No one has claimed responsibility for the explosions.
