Driving while ‘buzzed’ is still significant risk for life-threatening accidents

Driving while 'buzzed' produces impairment

A recently published report indicates that driving while even slightly buzzed causes increased traffic accidents.

The journal, Addiction, published a study from the University of California San Diego which shows that individuals who are buzzed while driving are more likely to speed as well as not use their seatbelts properly. In addition, researchers found that accidents involving alcohol, even at a scant, detectable level, are 36.6 percent more severe than accidents that don’t have alcohol as a contributing factor.

“Many people think, ‘I’ve only had one drink; I’ll be fine to drive’, but this research clearly shows that this is not the case,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “Understanding the effects of alcohol on the brain, we’ve always been advocates for not driving after consuming what is perceived as a small amount of alcohol. Functionality of the brain is impaired, even with supposed insignificant amounts of alcohol. It’s important to always designate a non-drinking driver when consuming even just one drink. “

This particular study bolsters the position of many who advocate lowering the legal limit of intoxication in an effort to save more lives.
