Matt Kenseth has won the 2009 Daytona 500 after rain cut the season-opening race short, just 48 laps shy of the 200.
Kenseth edged Kevin Harvick for his first Daytona 500 victory while A.J. Allmendinger finished third as the rains came down on lap 152.
The dynamics of the 51st Daytona 500 shifted on lap 125 when a ten-car accident knocked out Kyle Busch who had dominated the field, holding the lead for 88 laps. The accident came as Dale Earnhardt Jr. caught the back of Brian Vickers car when he failed to pass him on the inside.
Both Earnhardt and Vickers were a lap down at the time but the accident knocked out many of the lead cars and opened the way for Kenseth and Harvick to race for the coveted title.
