A
migrant boat carrying at least 28 people from North Africa capsized off the Canary
Islands killing at least 19 while three more remain missing.
Spanish
rescue crews managed to pull six people to safety while helicopters have been
scanning the waters for other survivors. According to reports the migrants were
believed to be traveling from Morocco when they hit rough water.
The
Spanish Canary Islands has attracted many African migrants searching for work
but a stricter immigration policy and an increased surveillance presence has
made the trip more difficult.
