A new E. coli outbreak in Bordeaux, France has been linked to the massive outbreak in Germany in which 46 people died. The French Ministry of Health says at least two of eight people sickened in the new outbreak were infected with the same rare strain of E. coli that sickened over 2,000 people in Germany. Both outbreaks have been traced back to bean sprouts.
Health ministry officials say seven of the infected attended an event at a recreation center and six of them reported eating sprouts at the event. The sprouts were then traced back to Thompson and Morgan, a British company that supplies sprout seeds. The sprouts eaten at the recreation center were grown in France.
Britain's Food Standards Agency said consumers should cook bean sprouts “until steaming hot throughout” before eating them. "They should not be eaten raw," the agency said.
