Critically acclaimed addiction documentary television show, Intervention, will feature The Orchid Recovery Center Monday night. This episode of the popular A&E television series features The Orchid’s recovery offerings for women embroiled in drug addiction.
The episode follows the lives of Sarah and Mikael, a young couple entranced by each other and trapped in heroin addiction, and the couple’s families as they attempt to stop the young people’s descent into heroin use, amid an intensely codependent relationship. Promoted as “Romeo and Juliet on heroin,” the episode watches as families collaborate to attempt a potentially life-saving intervention.
“It’s an immense privilege to have our women’s recovery center spotlighted by a show of Intervention’s caliber,” said Julie Queler, The Orchid Chief Executive Officer. “More importantly, we were granted the even greater privilege of offering hope for heroin addiction recovery to the young woman we met.”
The Orchid’s appearance on the Emmy® Award-winning reality series marks the second episode of the season. Premiering its eleventh season last week, the show has helped stage nearly 200 drug and alcohol addiction interventions since its 2005 beginnings, with more than 150 past guests remaining sober, according to the show’s website.
“The silent victims of drug addiction are often friends and family,” added Queler. “’Intervention gives loved ones of addicts a voice – one that often can compel addicted individuals to seek professional treatment.”
Specializing in trauma recovery, The Orchid treats women embattled in drug, alcohol or behavioral addictions. Weaving expressive arts and community-based therapy into the traditional 12-step recovery model, The Orchid’s addiction treatment program is fashioned to meet women’s unique needs for addiction recovery. Women’s issues also receive specialized focus at The Orchid, including therapeutic treatment that revolve around gender-specific issues that can arise in the wake of addiction, such as self-image, female identity, motherhood, domestic violence and sexual assault.
The Intervention episode featuring The Orchid will air June 27 at 10 p.m. Monday and rerun June 28 at 2:01 a.m. Viewers can watch the series Monday nights at 10 p.m., EST/PST.
