Pakistani officials say 21 Taliban militants died Monday in two suspected U.S. drone strikes. All of the strikes occurred in the tribal region of South Waziristan.
The first attack targeted a vehicle traveling in Ghalmandi Panga village. At least one missile hit the vehicle and killed 8 militants. The second strike targeted a compound in Mantoi. A Pakistani intelligence official speaking anonymously to Reuters said militants used the compound as a training center. Three missiles hit the building and killed at least 13 militants.
United States authorities do not publicly acknowledge carrying out drone strikes in Pakistan. Pakistani authorities have condemned the strikes as “counterproductive.”
