NCAA Basketball Scores: #4 Pittsburgh Panthers Knock Off #1 Connecticut Huskies in Big East Showdown

DeJuan Blair had 22 points and grabbed 23 rebounds, Sam Young added 25 points and Levance Fields hit a pair of huge three-pointers in the closing minutes as the #4 Pittsburgh Panthers (24-2, 11-2) went on the road and knocked off the #1 Connecticut Huskies (24-2, 12-2) 76-68 in Big East action on Monday night.

Pittsburgh led by as many as eight points in the first half before Connecticut cut their deficit to 36-33 at the break. The Huskies stayed close over the first ten minutes of the second half and when Kemba Walker sank a layup with 9:47 left on the clock they grabbed a 50-49 advantage, their first lead since 2-0.

UConn built a five-point lead but the Panthers climbed back and after Jermaine Dixon hit a triple with 4:37 left Pitt held a 59-58 advantage. With the game tied at 61-61 Fields buried his first bucket of the game, a three-pointer to reclaim the lead at 64-61 and after a defensive stop Fields hit another three-pointer to push the lead to 67-61 with 2:25 left on the clock and the Panthers then hit their free-throws down the stretch to preserve the win.

Pittsburgh outrebounded Connecticut 43-30 and held Hasheem Thabeet to just 5 points and 4 rebounds as they earned their first win over a #1 ranked team in school history.
