We blame it on Justin Timberlake. His portrayal of billionaire/Internet entrepreneur Sean Parker in the hit film The Social Network was so good that now people are confusing the character he played with the real guy. And it’s causing some drug-related problems for Parker.
The early Napster employee (he wasn't a cofounder as the film would lead you to believe) recently told the New York Post that Timberlake’s portrayal of him as a hard partier with a penchant for cocaine has had an unexpected result.
“There’s a certain pressure from the press, and even from the people I meet, to live up to that reputation that's been created by the film," Parker told The Post. While he declined to say whether the portrayal was true or confirm if he personally uses drugs, he did say that drug use "is an individual decision that doesn't hurt others, and it's a victimless crime as long as you're not hurting yourself.”
That big screen portrayal also spurred rumors of Parker’s wild ways upping the ante for the parties he throws. At any gathering he’s in charge of, people now expect a wild blowout. Whether Parker is giving the public what they want – or have come to expect – is uncertain because we’re not on the guest list.
