15 Militants Killed in Drone Strikes in Pakistan

At least 15 militants were killed late Monday in two separate drone strikes in Pakistan’s tribal region. Officials have confirmed three people died when two missiles apparently fired by a United States operated drone struck a vehicle traveling in North Waziristan. Later Monday night two missiles struck a North Waziristan compound and left 12 militants dead.

Earlier on Monday officials confirmed two drone strikes in South Waziristan left 21 Taliban militants dead. The first attack targeted a vehicle traveling in Ghalmandi Panga village. At least one missile hit the vehicle and killed 8 militants. The second strike targeted a compound in Mantoi. A Pakistani intelligence official speaking anonymously to Reuters said militants used the compound as a training center. Three missiles hit the building and killed at least 13 people.

United States authorities do not publicly acknowledge carrying out drone strikes in Pakistan. Pakistani authorities have condemned the strikes as “counterproductive.”
