Smart phones and the internet are such important tools and can be used to share valuable information to people around the world. Now a group of New York women want to use technology to report street sexual harassment.
The New York Post featured a story about a network of New Yorkers who have been using the internet to report incidents of sexual harassment on the city streets and public transportation. Hollaback! was started as an app and an internet forum to discuss and report sexual abuse. The group plans to launch an iPhone and Android app in March of 2012 that will allow by-standers to report incidents of sexual abuse and harassment that they witness.
Hollaback! was initially a blog and has globally re-launched their a website, iHollaback.org. The website includes blogs in 24 cities and will add thirty more in August. The site includes a map that highlights were people have been harassed on the streets and gives people a forum to discuss their harassment. They also plan to launch and app that would allow witnesses to share photos and videos of sexual harassment.
We often think of sexual harassment as a work-related issue, but many women are subjected to it on the streets, as well, and Hollaback! Wants to give people the chance to speak up about it.
On the streets a person has little recourse, but in the workplace a sexual harassment attorney will fight to end the problem for their clients.
By hiring a sexual harassment lawyer the victim will have a voice in court.
