Facebook
founder Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the social networking site will
return to its previous terms of service following an outcry from members
regarding a new policy that concerned user data.
Changes
made to the terms of service stipulated that Facebook could maintain possession
of all data uploaded to their site even after a user deleted their profile.
While Zuckerberg stated that the move was made to ensure comments or messages
sent by a member weren’t deleted when their profile was removed the explanation
didn’t sit well with members, many of whom left the popular networking
community.
The
decision to revert to their previous terms of service was announced by
Zuckerberg in a blog post in which he stated, “the past couple of days, we
received a lot of questions and comments about the changes and what they mean
for people and their information. Based on this feedback, we have decided to
return to our previous terms of use while we resolve the issues that people
have raised.”
