Dominique Strauss Kahn Released From House Arrest

In a surprising turn of events in the sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss Kahn, prosecutors presented evidence Friday which cast serious doubt on the credibility of the hotel maid who accused Strauss Kahn of sexually assaulting her. A New York judge released Strauss Kahn from house arrest after reviewing the evidence.

"We believed from the beginning that this case was not what it appeared to be. We are absolutely convinced that while today is a first giant step in the right direction, the next step will lead to a complete dismissal of the charges,” said Strauss Kahn’s lawyer Benjamin Brathman.

The new evidence could cause the case against the former International Monetary Fund chief to collapse despite DNA evidence showing sexual contact between Strauss Kahn and the maid.

Strauss Kahn was arrested in May and pleaded not guilty on June 6. He faces seven charges, including sexual abuse and criminal sexual acts.
