Wrestling Legend Verne Gagne Suspected in Death of Helmut Gutmann

Wrestling legend Verne Gagne is under investigation for his involvement in the death of his roommate at the Bloomington living facility, Friendship Village.

Gagne and Gutmann, who both suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease, allegedly got into a fight on January 26. Gutmann, 97, suffered a broken left and head injury in the fight. He was hospitalized and released before suffering complications and being hospitalized again. Gutmann died earlier this week. His exact cause of death is unknown.

Bloomington police are investigated whether Gagne contributed to the former cancer researcher’s death. It is unclear if he will be charged due to his mental state. Gagne has been dismissed from Friendship Village.

Gagne began his wrestling career in 1949. He later hosted All-Star-Wrestling. Gagne influenced the careers of many other WWE stars including Hulk Hogan and Jesse Ventura. He was inducted into the World Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1999.
