Iraqi officials say dozens of people were killed Tuesday in two coordinated explosions outside a government building in Taji, a city north of Baghdad. Several media outlets have reported the first explosion was caused by a suicide bomber detonating a car bomb while others have reported the explosives were detonated remotely. A roadside bomb detonated shortly after the first explosion.
Police put the death toll at 35, but said it could rise as rescue teams continue to search through debris. At least 28 people were wounded.
Al Qaeda is believed to be behind the attack. A similar attack was carried out last month at a market in Baghdad. Three coordinated explosions in the Shurt al Raba market left 23 people dead and 86 others wounded.
