NBA Scores: Utah Jazz Use Big Fourth Quarter to Drop Boston Celtics, Kevin Garnett Strains Knee

Mehmet Okur scored 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, Deron Williams added 18 points and 10 assists and Ronnie Brewer chipped in 16 points and 4 steals as the Utah Jazz (32-23) used a big fourth quarter to get past the Boston Celtics (44-12) 90-85 on Thursday night for their third straight win.

Boston came out hot and used a 14-2 run in the opening frame to built a 20-9 advantage and settled for a 22-13 lead at the end of one. After falling behind by as many as 11 in the second quarter the Jazz began to chip away at the Celtics lead and by the end of the half they closed to within 39-38.

For Boston there were bigger problems than losing a double-digit lead as they lost Kevin Garnett when he left late in the second quarter with a strained right knee. Garnett was not able to play in the second half but the Celtics once again boosted their lead to 11 after a 9-0 run gave them a 58-47 advantage with 6:24 left in the third.

Heading into the fourth Boston was up 66-60 and they managed to keep their lead until the Jazz used a 7-0 run to move in front 77-76 with 5:43 left in the game. The teams went back-and-forth over the final minutes but after Paul Pierce gave the Celtics a one-point advantage the Jazz tied the game on an Okur free-throw and then Matt Harpring put Utah in front for good with a 15-foot jumper with a minute left.

The five-point difference in the game could be seen at the free-thrown line as the Jazz hit 24-31 from the stripe while the Celtics finished 19-29.
