The Tudors’ Jonathan Rhys Meyers Suicide Attempt?
Reports say that Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who previously battled alcohol addiction, was rushed to the hospital after a relapse involving an overdose of pills.
The royals portrayed in the popular Showtime series The Tudors certainly had their serious issues, and the actors who portray them are no different. Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who took on the role of King Henry VIII, was reportedly hospitalized in London this week after what some are calling a suicide attempt.
Meyer’s Past with Alcohol
The 33-year-old, who has battled an alcohol problem in the past, was found at his home where he was slumped over due to an apparent overdose of pills. Paramedics answered an emergency call, according to Britain’s The Sun newspaper, but Meyers reportedly refused treatment. Fearing for his health, the police were called, and he did eventually go to the hospital by ambulance.
"He did relapse but he did not try to commit suicide," a source told The Sun, confirming, "He was taken to the hospital and then released."
The Irish actor was reportedly discharged from the hospital early Wednesday, but substance use has caused other problems in the past. Meyers was arrested at the Dublin airport in 2007 on charges of public drunkenness and breach of the peace.
