Victims of Nevada train wreck file lawsuits

By: Daun Lee

On June 24th six people were killed when a truck crashed into an Amtrak passenger train outside of Reno, Nevada. The impact caused two train cars to catch on fire. The driver of the truck, the train conductor and four passengers died, and numerous individuals were injured.

Thus far, two victims of the accident have filed lawsuits to seek damages for medical care. Accident attorneys are usually retained for these types of lawsuits.

Although investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the train wreck, there has been some suspicion that speed was involved. The National Traffic Safety Board is still conducting their investigation. They found that the trucking company had 12 minor safety violations. The truck driver had received at least three speeding tickets in California since 2007.

The two lawsuits, most likely filed by an accident lawyer, name the trucking company as defendants. One lawsuit, also names Amtrak as a co-defendant. The two women who filed the lawsuits work for Amtrak.

The lawsuit which names Amtrak was filed by Lana Dickerson, who was trying to lead passengers out of the wreckage. She attempted to escape through a door in the car she was working, but the door was locked. She and the passengers were forced to go through the wreckage and encountered the bodies of crash victims and were exposed to smoke from the fire.

The other lawsuit only names the Davis Trucking Company and the driver of the truck.

The lawsuits will seek damages for medical costs and emotional duress. An accident attorney has the necessary experience to obtain the compensation these victims deserve.
