A safety inspection at a Brooklyn Medical center has revealed a number of asbestos removal safety violations.
Asbestos was commonly used in ceiling tiles and insulation until the 80s. The harmful mineral is known to cause a variety of pulmonary diseases including mesothelioma. OSHA found that the medical center failed to offer training for employees and engineers working on a renovation project. They also failed to notify outside contractors of the presence of asbestos. The hospital did not label asbestos containing materials that they placed in their dumpsters.
