Death Row Inmate Forcibly Carried into Chamber for Execution

An inmate on death row at Virginia’s Greensville Correctional Center had to be forcibly carried into the prisons execution chamber before being put to death by lethal injection.

Edward Nathaniel Bell was sentenced to death for the murder of Winchester, VA police Sgt. Ricky Timbrook ten years ago. Bell has maintained his innocence all the way up to his execution, telling the family of the murdered officer “you definitely have the wrong person. The truth will come out one day. This here, killing me, there's no justice about it.”

When officers went to Bell’s cell he refused to step forward and fought officers who were attempting to place him on a gurney. Several guards were able to subdue Bell and with the help of a sedative led him to the death chamber.

Bell was convicted of shooting Timbrook to death during a chase down a dark alley on Oct. 29, 1999. According to prosecutors Bell had been a drug dealer who held a grudge against Timbrook who had arrested him two years earlier.

Bell was pronounced dead at 9:11 p.m. on Thursday.
