By: Daun Lee

The mother of a 13 year old gay boy, Seth Walsh, who committed suicide after repeated sexual harassment filed a wrongful death lawsuit alleging the boy’s school did nothing to prevent the harassment.

Wendy Walsh of Bakersfield, California filed the suit just days after the US Department of Education determine that the Tehachapi Unified School District failed to respond to the bullying of the gay teen.

According to her suit, the school district was aware of the ongoing harassment Seth was subjected to and none of the teachers or school staff did anything to halt or prevent the harassment.

Seth hung himself in his backyard after being bullied by classmates over his sexual preferences. His suicide note blamed the school for his suicide.

The Tehachapi Unified School has agreed to take steps to prevent gender-based and sexual harassment, which includes revising policies and educating students and teachers and staff. They will also survey schools in the district on sexual harassment based issues.

Students are often subjected to sexual harassment, especially on college campuses, it is sometimes necessary to employ a sexual harassment attorney to end their victimization.

Close to 31 percent of women claim to have been harassed on the job and 62 percent of college students are harassed by classmates. Many of the women report their harassment to supervisors or schools authorities but sometimes little is done to halt the harassment. Hiring a sexual harassment lawyer is their only recourse.
