An early morning air strike in Afghanistan sparked protests against NATO and the United States after officials confirmed women and children died in the raid. Khost province police chief Mohamad Zazai said a house in Dowamanda district was targeted. Three women and eight children were killed.
Hundreds of protestors gathered shortly after the strike and chanted phrases like "Death to the United States" and "Death to NATO,” according to Khost foreign relations chief Arifullah Pashton.
NATO has not commented. Earlier this week NATO’s International Security Assistance Force admitted to accidentally killing several family members of insurgents in a July 5th air strike in the Shamal district of Khost Province. At least 11 people, including several insurgents, died. ISAF is also investigating claims that two innocent civilians were killed on June 6th in an air strike in Ghazni Province.
