New Orleans man surrenders to police for fatal hit and run

A motorcyclist who killed a three year old girl has surrendered to police.

The accident happened on Monday. Shawn Dejean, 22, was speeding through an East New Orleans neighborhood when he stuck the toddler, Asia Williams. The young girl was knocked to the ground and later died of her injuries.

The accident happened during a block party where neighbors gathered to watch Fourth of July fireworks. A large group of motorcycles rumbled through the gathering and disrupted the festivities. Asia was standing a few feet in the road when she was struck. She was knocked to the opposite side of the road and hit her head on the concrete. She later died of head injuries.

Families of deceased or injured people can file a lawsuit by retaining an accident attorney.

Some of the motorcyclist stopped but other did not. Witnesses gave conflicting reports of whether the guilty party was one of group who stopped, but he was not.

Dejean turned himself into New Orleans Parrish Police and faces charges of manslaughter, hit and run and reckless driving.
