Military Base Used by African Union Peacekeepers Attacked by Somali Insurgents

A military base used by African Union peacekeepers in Mogadishu has been attacked by Somali insurgents opposed to the transitional government now in place in the country.

Two suicide bombers, believed to be part of the militant group al-Shabab, carried out the attacks on the base using cars packed with explosives.

At least six Burundi soldiers were said to be killed in the attack but no official word on casualties has been released. Only Burundi and Uganda have provided peacekeepers in Somalia since Ethiopian troops pulled out in January.
