All
22 members of a Spanish fishing trawler forced to leap into the North Atlantic
after their boat caught fire have been rescued by a Canadian Coast Guard ship
that was responding to their distress call.
The
Canadian Coast Guard ship arrived about ten minutes after receiving the distress
call from the Monte Galineiro on Sunday, just as several of the fishermen were
leaping in the freezing waters to avoid the flames.
One
of the fishermen was said to have suffered from hypothermia but was treated onboard
the Coast Guard ship.
There
was no word on what caused the fire on the fishing trawler.
